It can be seen from most of Istanbul and is a historic part of the city. Galata Tower was built in 1348, back when the city was still Constantinople. Originally it was called the "Tower of Christ" in Latin. When the Ottomans took the city, they renamed the tower "Galata". The top of the tower boasts of a restaurant and an observation deck. The view from the deck is a complete panoramic one of Istanbul and the Bosphorus.
