Standing a towering 323 feet, far above the rest of Venice, Italy is St. Mark's Campanile. This iconic bell tower is a city treasure as well as an infamous landmark. It is a separate structure from, though associated with, the nearby St. Mark's Basilica. The weather vane at the peak is crafted in the shape of the archangel Gabriel. The tower is a simple fluted structure of red brick whose elegance creates a magnanimous focal point in Venice. St. Mark's Campanile faced destruction in the early 20th century, but was immediately reconstructed, a testament to its importance to Venetians.
