One of the crowning features of the Old Town of Prague is the Powder Tower. The dark, grim-looking tower stands out among the pale stones of the neighboring buildings. It used to be an access way into the city and was controlled with a gate. The exterior of the tower is adorned with numerous statues of Bohemian kings and saints. The Powder Tower gets its name from the gunpowder stored inside in the 17th century. Ascending to the top affords an excellent view of the rooftops of Prague.
