06.25.08 We were in Montreal last week and loved their Metro system. It is very easy to use. It is nine miles long and is connected to malls, arts center, university areas. It is the most civilized way to travel. The taxi is $35.oo from downtown hotel (Hyatt Rgency). It is the same price for four people. Just split the price among each other. Watch for some unauthorized taxis and they will charge you 40 something which is the same price per person to ride the shuttle. Walking is very feasible if your hotel is in central downtown. At our hotel, we were able to walk to Chinatown, Vieux Montreal, Vieux Port, Plaza des Arts, the St. Catherine shopping scene, McGill U, McCord Musee, Musee de Montreal Art, via metro, etc. They have the best Metro. If you speak English, they will too. If you rattle out Bonjour, they will rattle in French. :-)

We stayed in a downtown hotel near the Berri/UQAM station and used the Metro often. It is fast and easy to use. Over four lines there are 68 stations and 44 miles (71km) of routes. Most places we went were a short walk from a Metro station, or a few minutes on a connecting bus.
